Unnecessary Farce
Columbus State University
Director: Tim McGraw
Position: Scenic Designer
Description: Unnecessary Farce is a comedy that takes place in a modern-day, worn-down motel room. The set requires 8 doors which are regularly opened (and slammed) during the show. I decided to go with a warmer color scheme to portray a safer environment and add wooden paneling to the downstage walls to add a different texture. Carpet tiles were also installed to further portray the concept of a motel room.

Macbeth
Columbus State University
Director: David Turner
Position: Scenic Designer
"Senior Project"
Description: Macbeth is a popular Shakespeare tragedy that follows a Scottish nobleman who through ambition from a prophecy and persuasion of his wife, fights and manipulates his way to become king of Scotland.
I received the role of scenic designer for this play as my senior project in Fall of 2024. The director and I decided that the best way to approach his vision for the play was to create a minimalistic yet eye-catching set. I also wanted to take as much of an abstract approach as I could since this was my first opportunity to design a Shakespeare play. To keep transitions as smooth as possible, I wanted all of my set pieces to be rigged and flown in. This added the extra challenge of space, so I created "neutral" pieces. A mix and max situation if you will. Depending on what pieces were in determined what location the actors were in. There ended up being 5 pieces. The castle window, two castle walls, the outside castle doors, and a floating candle arch, as well as two trees permanantly located stage right and left. The trees were a simple implication of the forest. I really focused on the concept that none of my pieces fit together as a whole piece, but instead when they are put side by side you see a cut out of what the entirety of their location should be. You then have to use your imagination to fill in the gaps.
